So you need to set the mood around the table, you want your friends & family to be able to sit down and feel the Christmas spirit!
In this article I will be sharing some of my top tips on how to decorate the Christmas table so that you can start your Christmas festivities asap!
Tablecloth / Runners
The foundation of how to decorate the Christmas table is very important and it’s a small step that you shouldn’t miss, having a tablecloth or runner will really help pull the look together, it’s like making your bed when you wake up, as long as that’s done it makes everything else slowly come together.
Consider a luxurious velvet if your Christmas guests are above I’d say 15 lol, you don’t want to ruin your new beautiful runner straight away! Having a solid colour such as a white means you have a clear canvas to add any colour to it.
Speaking of adding colours, a beautiful addition to your runner would be to have a colour such as forest green to bring that Christmas warmth.
Centrepiece
Ah the centrepiece, the heart of the table! Having a centrepiece that makes a bold statement is good enough for me, whether you’ve gone for more of a classic Christmas theme or elegant Christmas theme, the centrepiece needs to make a statement, drawing all of your friends and family into the Christmas spirit!
The best types of centrepieces you want to go for are:
-Floral but traditional
Go for a classic Christmas adding flowers such as white lilies, red roses. Also incorporate berries, pinecones, and small leafy branches.
-Simple and minimalistic candles
Having a simple touch of candles on your table gives it that warm feeling, grab a bunch of candles and candleholders all varying in size and decorate around it with spare greenery or wreaths!
-Fruity
Has anybody seen those fruit bowls that you could quite literally have on your table all year round! They are just perfect and of course depending on the season you can change the fruits, so for Christmas the fruits I would chose for my bowl would be, pomegranates, cranberry, oranges& cinnamon sticks!
Dinnerware and Cutlery
Your dinnerware and cutlery are those things that you think isn’t really important and tbh it’s not the most important, but it definitely does make a huge difference in how your table turns out.
There are loads of different dinnerware sets that you could go for, the most appealing is a classic white set and Christmas set.
Classic white is by far the better choice I personally think, especially if your Christmas guests are all older, when food is served they have a clear canvas to enjoy the food that you’ve been slaving away in the kitchen for hours!
Napkin Fold Designs
Well idk about you guys but whenever I see any type of napkin art I am in awe! And that’s how your Christmas guests are going to be this year, when you bust out the napkin designs!
Having beautifully folded napkins adds that elegant, polished table feel. You could add your own personal touch and have different napkin designs for different guests or you could do your designs based on the theme you choose.
Place Cards and Holders
Speaking of personalising things, having place cards and holders really makes the table feel intentional and thoughtful!
Of course place cards are going to make your guests feel special but it also helps make sure you’ve got an adequate amount of space for everyone!
*BONUS TIP* If you’ve got kids (especially messy ones!) you can dedicate one end of the table for the kids and the other for the adults!
Ambient Lighting
Set the perfect Christmas mood with ambient lighting, having soft warm lights at Christmas really helps with the Christmas spirit & adding in tiny bits of brighter lights or coloured lights will help bring it all together.
Having lighting on the table particularly helps if you have your Christmas dinner abit later than others (my family lol!) It’s not that late but in the UK at 4pm having dinner those table lights are going to come in handy, you don’t want to ruin the mood and turn the main light on so having lights on the table really helps!
Themed Decor
From classic red and green to simple winter wonderlands choose a theme and decorate with relevant ornaments and accents to bring your vision to life.
Your Christmas theme is important as it showcases your holiday spirit. At this point decorating your table I’m sure you would have had your theme sorted out!
If you haven’t got a theme sorted, there’s so many themes to choose from such as:
-Traditional Red & Green
-Elegant Winter
-Gingerbread
-Nutcracker ballet
-Nordic / Scandinavian
-Vintage
And the list goes on!
DIY Projects
Who doesn’t love a good old DIY?!? Well I do and hopefully you guys do as well, homemade crafts are the best, they add the most simple personal touch to your table and anywhere else you put these crafts!
You can choose more elegant personalised DIY crafts to do such as the place holders mentioned earlier or you can go for the family option,
…which can sometimes be a bit messy but hey if we’ve got kids may as well showcase their talents and Christmas spirit as well!
Conclusion
As you’re decorating your Christmas table this year with all of these tips in mind just remember that Christmas is all about spending time with your loved ones and appreciating them.
Think about not just how you want your table to look at Christmas but about how special people will feel knowing you put your all into this and that is much more rewarding!
